English: This building represents a Michigan Historic Site. The Detroit Urban League was founded in 1916. The initial purpose of this association was to better the lives of the large number of black people who came to the City of Detroit during World War 1. The Detroit Urban League adapted its philosophy to the ever changing issues within the black community. It continues to serve the black environment to this day.
