English: Diachronic evolution of the toponym “Bessarabia”, from the principality of Wallachia (1330) to the mouths of the Danube (1395-1420) attached to the principality of Moldavia (1420), from the latter to the Ottoman Empire (1484-1812), then to the Russian Empire (1812) and finally to the Kingdom of Romania (1918-1940); the term becomes obsolete after 1950; current borders superimposed.
