Description

In Greater Los Angeles, while the I-405 in posh West Los Angeles is usually considered the worst bottleneck, this place, about 40 miles to the east in Asian model minority immigrant territory, is a strong contender. CA-60 (east-west artery, formerly US-60, running between Los Angeles and Riverside) and CA-57 (north-south artery, connecting Glendora to Anaheim and Orange) merge into one roadway for about two miles in Diamond Bar, making for a severe bottleneck.

Diamond Bar is just west of Pomona, where aircraft approaching from the east line up for the final approach into Los Angeles. Downtown Los Angeles is about 25 miles away from here, while the airport is about 40-45 miles away.

The lower left shows the site of the proposed National Football League stadium. Los Angeles has not had professional football since 1996 (although it's had an excellent international football - soccer - team, the Los Angeles Galaxy - to make up for it, thanks to the large immigrant population); that year, both the Raiders at LA Coliseum and the Rams in Anaheim moved out, to Oakland and St. Louis, respectively. Building a new stadium is a bid to lure an NFL franchise back to Los Angeles, possibly the Arizona Cardinals or the New Orleans Saints.

Enroute from Chicago O'Hare to Los Angeles.
