He finally settled in his nativetown, where, in the Museum, an Annunciation,an Adoration of the Shepherds, Episodes in theLife of Madame de Chantal, and other works of his,are to be seen. He died in 1783. SOITZ, G. C, a German engraver, who flourishedabout the year 1530. He executed some of theportraits for the Templum Honoris, published atVienna in the above-mentioned year. SOI US, Philippe. See Soye. SOJARO, II. See Gatti. SOKOLOFF, Peter, painter, flourished at St.Petersburg in the 18th century. He studied in Romeunder Battoni, and painted historical and mytho-logical subjects. He was assistant professor at theAcademy at St. Petersburg, where he died in 1791. SOLARIO, Andrea, born circa 1460, died circa1530. To M. Ottone Mundler, says Morelli, * be-longs the credit of throwing light on the characterof this artist. The same author, in his Delia Pit-tura Italiana, published in 1897, further remarks : On account of the disagreement between existingwriters concerning the most important artist of theLombardo-Milanese School, I permit myself tospeak of him at some length. This disagreementreferred to by Morelli is amply borne out by aperusal of the various Dictionaries of Art. AndreaSolario, Salario, Andrea Mediolensis, of Milan,del Gobbo, or Gobbo of Milan, has beenconfused with another Milanese artist, AndreaSalai. H
