22 Die Bienen Afrikas nach dem Stande unserer heutigen Kenntnisse. ige noch an weiteren Lokalitäten aufgefunden werden. Auch Scrapter stützt die Theorie von dem im Indischen Ozean versunkenen Kontinent. (Vergl. Karte 15.) Als fünfte und letzte Gattung wählte ich eine Vertreterin der hochentwickelten Bienen, die Bauchsammler- gattung Osmia, eine ausschließlich in der nördlich gemäßigten Zone heimische Gruppe. Trotzdem findet sie sich in Südafrika und sogar jetzt schon in 8 Arten, so daß wir ohne weiteres ein Dutzend Arten erwarten dürfen. Osmia zeigt uns mit Andrena, CoUetes, Nomioides und Melitta aufs deutlichste die Einwanderung über Abessinien — üstafrika — ins Kapland, wenn auch das Hochgebirge der östlichen Tropen uns bisher noch keinen Vertreter geliefert hat. (Vergl. Karte 16.) Bevor ich nun am Schlüsse noch die sozialen Bienen Afrikas in ihrer geographischen Verbreitung skizziere, möchte ich noch eine auffallend gefärbte und weitverbreitete typische Afrika-Biene, die Megachile

Karte 15. Vorkommen südafrikanischer Bienengattungen in anderen Erdteilen. Verbreitung von Scrapter (Ctemplectra). maxillosa GuER. erwähnen, die trotz ihrer großen Verbreitung doch noch die östliche Heimat und ihr Wander- gebiet nach allen Richtungen zeigt. In geringerer Ausdehnung zeigen dies auch die verwandten Megachile rußventris, felina, hombiformis u. a. (Vergl. Karte 17.) Von den Honigbienen möchte ich zuerst die stachellosen erwähnen, das sind die Trigona-Arten, die den gesamten Tropengürtel der Erde umspannen und selbst die ozeanischen Inseln — Karolinen und Samoa-Inseln — noch bevölkern. Sie sind auch in Afrika vom 10 <" N. Br. bis zum 25" S. Br. bekannt geworden (Lorenzo Marquez und Kooa (Kalahari)), bevölkern auch Madagaskar und am Roten Meer noch Eritrea (15 N. Br.).
