ien und Afganistan kommandiert. Es gelang mir unterÜberwindung außerordentlicher Schwierigkeiten meine Aufträge so-weit möglich auszuführen und mich fast ein Jahr in Afganistan zuhalten. Anfang 1917 traf ich über Russisch-Turkestan und Nord-persien Avieder in der Türkei ein, nachdem die Expedition in tapferenKämpfen zugrunde gegangen war. Auch auf dieser Reise habe ichreiches wissenschaftliches Material sammeln können. Sommer 1917Avurde ich in den Generalstab kommandiert, dem ich bis Schluß desKrieges angehörte. Weitere Aufträge brachten mich abermals an die persischeGrenze, sodann nach Palästina und ins Hedschas. Anfang 1918wurde ich an die Westfront kommandiert, wo ich bis zum Rück-marsch blieb.
