Another cart follows behind. Signs attached to the carts explain how increased potato yields can be achieved. In the surrounding fields, sacks of potatoes stand ready to be collected. text: Die Kriegsgebote des Kartoffelbauers Landwirt! An Speisekartoffeln! 135 DZ v. Hektar Deutschlands durchschnittliche Kartoffelernte 216 DZ v. Hektar 10 jÀhriger Durchschnitt einer gut geleiteten Kartoffelwirlschaft auf leichtem Boden AB Kartoffelbaugesellschaft, Berlin, Bernburgerstrasse 15. NATIONALER VERLAG. BERLIN, SW [The war commandments of the potato grower. Farmer! Hindenburg calls on you for increased cooperation in the economic battle. This is your patriotic duty just like sacrificing life and limb at the front. Where is the greatest shortage? In cooking potatoes! Germany’s potato harvest must never be so low as in 1916. Never plant degraded potatoes again, which are much less cost-effective than newer varieties. If the harvest is poor, change the seeds used; buy them from your local farmers’ chamber, preferably from the sandy soil of the east. Never plant excessively small seed potatoes, do not re-cut the potatoes. Fertilise intensively with horse manure, plant fertiliser, artif. fertiliser. Keep the potatoes free of weeds, hoe the soil whenever it becomes compacted. And finally the main thing: make up your mind at once to prepare more acreage for spring potatoes, but in no event plant less. 135 DH per hectare Germany’s average potato harvest. 216 DH per hectare10-year average of well-managed potato farming on light soil. This image is in the public domain because it is a mere mechanical scan or photocopy of a public domain original, or – from the available evidence – is so similar to such a scan or photocopy that no copyright protection can be expected to arise. The original itself is in the public domain for the following reason:
This tag is designed for use where there may be a need to assert that any enhancements (eg brightness, contrast, colour-matching, sharpening) are in themselves insufficiently creative to generate a new copyright. It can be used where it is unknown whether any enhancements have been made, as well as when the enhancements are clear but insufficient. For known raw unenhanced scans you can use an appropriate {{PD-old}} tag instead. For usage, see Commons:When to use the PD-scan tag. Note: This tag applies to scans and photocopies only. For photographs of public domain originals taken from afar, {{PD-Art}} may be applicable. See Commons:When to use the PD-Art tag. |
