DescriptionDiplomatic gift ceremony of Cherry Trees from Japan at the Tidal Basin, Washington D.C., April 10, 2024 - 3.jpg |
English: Brendon Fish, left, USDA APHIS PPQ, and Paul Kanninen, State Plant Health Director for Maryland and Washington DC, discuss with some Japanese official before the beginning of a diplomatic gift ceremony of Cherry Trees from Japan at the Tidal Basin, Washington D.C., April 10, 2024. In March 2024, the U.S. National Park Service announced plans to remove more than 150 cherry trees in Washington, D.C., in order to make repairs to the seawall lining the Tidal Basin. The trees being removed are descended from cherry trees given to the United States by Japan in 1912. In response to this announcement, Japanese Prime Minister Kishida decided to give the United States a gift of four ‘Someiyoshino’ flowering cherry trees to be planted at the Japanese American Memorial to Patriotism During World War II. Prime Minister Kishida presented the cherry trees to the United States during a ceremony on April 10 at the Tidal Basin. (USDA photo by Christophe Paul) |

The Public Domain Mark (PDM) is not a copyright license, but a symbol used to indicate that a work is in the public domain. When it is applied by the author or the copyright holder, community consensus has decided such works as being public domain in the US and countries where it is legally possible to release own work to the public domain. In the countries where this is not possible, the copyright status of the work remains undetermined.
| ||
If a file is tagged with Public Domain Mark by someone other than the author or the copyright holder, a more specific copyright tag such as one found at Commons:Copyright tags/General public domain must be applied. If this is your own work, please use {{Cc-zero}} instead.
