Fig. 7.—Glume blotch of wheat. The causative fungus attacks the heads most often. On the heads it produces brownish blotches near the tip of the chaff. A, on which spore-bearing bodies are relatively rare. Also, it attacks the joints, .4, discoloring them and producing tiny, black, spore-bearing bodies in the lesions. Severely infected heads. B, left, are chocolate-brown and they produce shriveled kernels, B, left. Diseased heads and kernels are smaller than healthy heads and kernels, B, right.
