English: 11 December 2004. Why am I posting an old photo of buildings which no longer exist ?
__________________ This row of disused garages used to stand at the southern end of Stoneleigh Road between two adjacent Council carparks close to High Road Tottenham. In 2004, this area looked and felt like 'no-man's land' and discouraged use of both carparks. I reported endless dumping and flytipping - and an occasional fire. Groups of men sometimes used to hang round for no obvious purpose. (For some reason they seemed camera-shy.) The garages were demolished as part of Haringey Council's award-winning redesign in 2005-6. Planning for the new carparks involved joint working by Council staff from different departments, the local police and others. ___________________________ Links § Another photo of these garages - as they were in September 2005. § This is part of a set of photos taken in and near Stoneleigh Road. It shows improvements made - and tasks still waiting. § This location is now opposite the rear entrance to the Kitap Evi - a restaurant, internet cafe, small bookshop and cultural centre.
