DescriptionDiversion - geograph.org.uk - 1599924.jpg |
English: Diversion May 1980 was the 150th anniversary of the original Rainhill Trials which was won by the "Rocket". In May 1980 British Rail re-enacted these trials on the same stretch of the Liverpool to Manchester Railway. This meant that scheduled trains which would normally have used this line had to be diverted. The diversion was from Manchester Junction at Parkside, up to Bamfurlong Junction then through Bryn, eventually rejoining the Liverpool Manchester joute at Huyton. Some trains used the L&Y line from Mnachester to Wigan where they reversed and followed the route through Bryn. This view shows a Liverpool to York train between Ince Moss Junction and Bamfurlong junction. |
