When looking far down near the mountain base,They saw approaching the good dog Grace. He was blazing his way up the Alpine steep,Sometimes hed jump, and at other times creep; He was fetching blankets to protect them from storm,And a barrel of cordial to make them warm.

In the month of June, not many years ago, five menstarted up one of the high mountains in Switzerland.They consumed about six hours in reaching nearly to thetop, and just as the last rocky ridge was climbed over, aviolent snowstorm began and soon the path they usedwas lost in the snow, and it was impossible for them tostart down the mountain, as there was nothing to guidethem. Scaling the mountain was difficult under the most IN PROSE AND RHYME. 21 favorable conditions. There were many very narrow ledgeswhere they had to creep along, and where one false stepwould have meant death. Here they were and here theymust remain until the storm ceased.
