herself to be a highly original and sensitive songwriter
on hits such as “Coat of Many Colors” (1971), which
drew upon her Appalachian childhood. After leaving
Wagoner's TV show in 1974, Parton embarked on
a solo career with crossover hits, movie roles, and
massive media exposure.
