Summary edit

Description
English: The Williamsburg Bridge and Manhattan skyline serve as an impressive backdrop for a friendly game of beach volleyball at Domino Park in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, as seen on a June 2022 evening. Opened to the public in 2018, this five-acre green space stretches along the East River from Grand to South 5th Streets and is just one part of the redevelopment of the former American Sugar Refining Company plant, the largest in the country at the time which produced Domino brand sugar under the management of the prominent Havemeyer family. The plant closed in 2004, and rumors of demolition after the property's acquisition by developer Isaac Katan were allayed by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission, who extended it local landmark status in 2007. Today, Domino Park includes an ADA-accessible waterfront promenade, taco stand, dog run, dedicated spaces for various types of active and passive recreation, and as a centerpiece, an award-winning playground designed by Mark Reigelman that pays tribute to the site's industrial heritage. Aside from it, the redevelopment scheme also includes the ongoing conversion of the former Pan, Filter, and Finishing House into 380,000 square feet of office space, as well as construction of three new buildings - 325 Kent Avenue, One South First, and Ten Grand; completed in 2017, 2019 and 2019 respectively - containing a mix of residential, office and retail space.
