Summary edit

Description
English: Donegal Friary: The Convent Of Donegal Built 1472-1474 by the Franciscans. (In English documents incorrectly referred to as the 'abbay of Dungall' (sic), as Abbeys were lived in by Benedictines and Cistercians.) The site was carefully chosen for this special building which was later referred to as the flower of Irish monasteries. It was here in this magnificent setting that the initial writing of 'The Annals of the Kingdom of Ireland' (Annala Rioghachta Eireann) was begun. The illustrious people interred in its sacred grounds is a clear indication of its prestige in the old Gaelic world.
