On the retreat,many of the wounded died. Several werefound dead by the road side, and the chap-arral near the battle-field was stained withthe blood of the retreating foe. Martial accou-trements, sacks and wallets of provisions,and gourds of the delicious wines of El Pa-so, were profusely scattered over miles ofsurface.
