The Dornier Do 335 Pfeil, unofficially also Ameisenbär ("anteater"), was a World War II heavy fighter built by the Dornier company. The Pfeil's performance was much better than other twin-engine designs due to its unique "push-pull" layout. The Luftwaffe was desperate to get the design into squadron use, but delays in engine deliveries meant only a handful were delivered before the war ended. The Do 335 of the NASM is the only one left. The aircraft was the second preproduction Do 335 A-0, designated A-02, with construction number (Werknummer) 240102, and factory radio code registration, or Stammkennzeichen, of VG+PH. In 1975 the aircraft was restored by Dornier employees, many of whom had worked on the airplane originally.Nederlands: Dornier Do 335 Pfeil in het National Air and Space Museum, Steven F. De Do 355, officieus ook Ameisenbär (miereneter) genoemd, was een zwaar jachtvliegtuig gebouwd door Dornier. De prestaties van de Pfeil waren beter dan andere twee-motorige ontwerpen als gevolg van zijn 'trek-duw' combinatie. De Luftwaffe wou het toestel zo snel mogelijk in gebruik nemen, maar problemen bij de levering van motoren zorgden er voor dat slechts een handvol geleverd werd voor het einde van de oorlog.

Die Dornier Do 335 ist ein Flugzeug von Dornier, das als Jagdbomber, Tag- und Nachtjäger und als Aufklärer gebaut wurde. Die lange Nase und die hochbeinige Konstruktion brachten diesem Flugzeug den offiziellen Namen Pfeil(für die einsitzige Version) und Ameisenbär (für den Doppelsitzer) ein. Durch das unkonventionelle Antriebsprinzip wurde erreicht, dass der Luftwiderstand kaum größer war als bei einem einmotorigen Flugzeug.
