Commemorative plaque to 'Dos de Mayo' [1808]

| Description |
English: Sumptuously ornamented commemorative plaque affixed in 1908 by the 'Circulo de Bellas Artes' to commemorate the first centenary of the Uprising of the population on May 2, 1808 against the French napoléonic occupation of Spain, which ignited the Peninsular War ("Guerra de la Independencia Española", 1808–1814). Similar plaques were simultaneously affixed on the façade of the City Hall, Puerta del Sol (<► File:Dos_de_Mayo_–_Madrid,_Puerta_del_Sol.jpg), and at the Royal Palace, C/de Bailén (<► File:Dos_de_Mayo_–_Madrid,_Palacio_Real_–_Detalle.jpg). |
