Object history 1855: commissioned by Franciszek Drewnowski, Warsaw
Notes Commemorative portrait of three friends, a Pole, a Frenchman and a Polish Jew, created by anonymous painter with a poem by Franciszek Drewnowski, most probably lost during World War II. The latter and Lapierre were treasury officials in Warsaw, while Teodor Toeplitz was a tax leaseholder and Onufry Mleczko was a nobleman and a landowner. Jan Lapierre (born Jean Baptiste Lapierre in Montauban, France) is sometimes confused with Jean Lapierre, aide-de-camp of Tadeusz Kościuszko.
