Drumm Seed and Floral Co. 15 DUKE JONES—New. A new strain combining all the good qualities of Kolb's Gem, being a good shipper and one of the best yielders ever in- troduced. I am planting mellons now for 15 years, but I hat never suche crop in quantite or q u a 1 i t e. Danking you for the kindness of sending me the seed. I am, Truly yours, Joseph Grasse, Gonzales, Texas. GABLY CALIFOR- NIA. This is a very popular market sort around Fort Worth. OUR SUPERIOR ONION SEED. We have always taken great pride in our onion seed and have spared no pains in having the best strains. We are in po- sition to fully appreciate the necessity there is for using great care in the selection of seed. There is no crop which depends more upon the quality of seed. The seed we offer are grown by experienced growers, and we are sure are not sur- passed anywhere, and are thoroughly tested for vitality be- fore they are sent out. They are sure to grow where soil and ssason are favorable, and will produce large-sized, well- shaped onions, free from stiff necks. Beware of cheap onion seed. We could easily purchase onion seed that could be sold for 50 per cent less than our prices, but it would prove a very expensive investment to the buyer in the outcome We aim to sell at as reasonable prices as any first-class seed can be sold. 4®~Write for special prices of five pounds or over, of i one or more kinds wanted, naming the quantity of each. JS"We offer special inducements to those wanting a ' Seed Drill or Cultivator in connection with onion seed. FULL-SIZED ONIONS THE FIRST YEAR. The seed we offer will grow full-sized onions the first year. To do this they should be sown as soon as possible in the spring, no matter if the weather is cold, so the soil works up well. This gives them a good start ahead of the weeds and before dry,

hot weather sets in. Sow thinly, 4 or 5 pounds to the acre, in drills one foot apart, and about JA inch deep, in strong land, well manured, and thin them out to stand 3 or 4 inches apart in, the drill, keeping them well hoed and free from weeds; for this purpose the Red Wetherfield and either of the Yellow Danvers are usually preferred. Onions delight in a strong, rich, deep, loamy soil, and succeed well if grown successive years on the same ground. FALL SOWING. Seed can be sown in August and Sep- tember, in drills wide enough apart to admit of working; when the plants have grown of sufficient size to be fit for table use, thin out to 4 inches apart, to secure a crop of large onions. This plan works admirably in Texas, but will not prove successful where the ground freezes deeply or is sub- ject to constant changes of temperature in spring. For sets, sow the seeds in drills as early as possible in the spring, very thickly—40 to 60 pounds to the acre. As soon as the tops dry off in summer, remove them to a dry, airy place; and early in the following spring replant by placing the sets in shallow drills 12 inches apart and about 4 inches apart in the drills; the onions, by this process, are obtained of a large size early in the season.
