English: Duke of Wellington The foundations and cellars of this pub were parts of a house built around 1220 by Benedict Ace, Mayor of Southmapton between 1237 and 1245. Damaged in wars against the French in 1338, the remains were incorporated into a larger house, the Bere House, in the 1490s. It is a Grade II listed building.
