| Description | Head-Of-Wall Building Joint at Dupont Canada Headquarters in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, with incomplete firestop made of rockwool packing and hard-curing ceramic-fibre firestop caulking. This caulking cures to a hard and brittle, inorganic, ionically bound crystal lattice solid, that is incapable of following any joint motion. It has superb fire-resistance (ceramic fibre is a common refractory material), which is great provided that the motion does not crush it before it ever sees a fire. At the time this was installed, no motion test existed for firestops. The picture also shows insulated and bare piping as well as some wiring. |
