Description
English: Dutch fishing boats becalmed near a jetty

A painting showing two Dutch boats off a jetty. The boat at anchor in the centre of the painting has its leeboard visible. Two figures, a woman and boy are standing in the bow of the boat and the third man is holding a rope attached over the side. A second boat can be seen directly behind, flying the Dutch flag, and with one figure working on board. Other small boats can be seen sailing in the distance. There is a jetty on the far right of the painting with the spire of a church and buildings visible on the skyline. The artist has created a scene of stillness and calm in the manner of Jan van de Capelle.
