Description Cornus sericea ssp. sericea—American dogwood. The former name and synonym C. stolonifera, describes the growth habit that makes this taxon useful in streamside restoration because of its ability to spread by stolons. It is also widely used as an ornamental because of the striking red color of stems in winters. The plant that provided the leaves and berries scanned resides at Regional Parks Botanic Garden located in Tilden Regional Park near Berkeley, CA
