Description
Français : Une planète tempérée distante d’à peine 11 années-lumière de la Terre a été découverte par une équipe d’astronomes au moyen de l’instrument HARPS, un chasseur d’exoplanètes unique au monde. Ce nouveau monde a été baptisé Ross 128 b. Il s’agit, à ce jour, de la seconde planète tempérée la plus proche de la Terre après Proxima b.

C’est également la planète la plus proche de nous en orbite autour d’une naine rouge inactive, ce qui pourrait renforcer la probabilité qu’elle abrite la vie. Ross 128 b constituera une cible de choix pour l’Extremely Large Telescope de l’ESO qui sera en mesure de détecter, au sein de son atmosphère, la présence ou non de biomarqueurs.
