Summary edit

Description
English: One of the first three locomotives used to pull trains on South Australian railways from 1856. Built by William Fairbairn in Manchester they were named Victoria, Albert and Adelaide. This locomotive displays the tender engine conversion conducted in 1869 to increase their capacity for fuel and water prior to their being withdrawn by 1873. Engine Number 1 was run for the first time on the Adelaide to Port Adelaide line in 1856. This was the first railway engine used in South Australia. The date of the original photograph is probably in the early 1860's. This was originally a tank engine but at a later period it was converted to a tender engine. Three engines of this type were imported: Number 1 = Adelaide, Number 2 = Victoria, Number 3 = Albert
