DescriptionEast Carlton - geograph.org.uk - 560688.jpg |
English: East Carlton, Aldbrough, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. A green lane to the fields behind the walled garden at East Carlton Farm, Aldbrough. East Carlton Farm was rebuilt in the late 18th or early 19th century, its walled garden having been built for an earlier house. A manor has existed at Carlton since the Norman Conquest, recorded in 1066 as belonging to Sven and in 1086 to Drew de Bevrère. The name Carlton is thought to be an Anglo-Scandinavian hybrid meaning 'peasants' farms'. |
