Nederlands: Dankzij peilingen met mobieltjes wisten we vrijdag voor de verkiezingen al dat Trump zou winnen in Florida stelt Eduardo Gamarra, Professor in Politics and International Relations Florida International University.
De meeste peilingen hebben gedaan wat ze moeten doen: het meten van de “popular vote” en die is gewonnen door Hillary Clinton. Maar peilingen vertonen wat eigenaardigheden in de VS; om te beginnen de Shy Trump voter, die in een telefonische peiling niet graag toegeeft op Trump te gaan stemmen. Hierdoor werd een aanzienlijk deel Trump-stemmers gemist of sloeg de balans door naar Clinton. Online peilingen hebben de toekomst, door het gebrek aan menselijke interactie heeft anonimiteit de online peilers in staat gesteld de Shy Trump stemmers wél mee te nemen in de peilingen. Zeker bij gevoelige vragen moet je oppassen de verborgen stem niet te missen. Gamarra was onlangs gastspreker bij UNU-MERIT in Maastricht. |
