Description
Español: El río Mula encuentra, a su paso por el norte de la localidad, el embalse de la Cierva. Durante los primeros años del siglo XX se estuvo gestando el proyecto de construcción de este pantano, pero no será hasta 1915 la inauguración del comienzo de las obras. Es en esta misma fecha cuando se decide su nombre en honor al que fuera ministro de Fomento y diputado por Mula desde 1896, Juan de la Cierva y Peñafiel. Hasta 1929 no fue puesto oficialmente en servicio, después de un complicado proceso de construcción por los problemas económicos. Será en 1946 cuando se llene por primera vez. En 1992 se acometieron obras de remodelación y ampliación para recrecer la presa, que en la actualidad tiene la capacidad de retener 7 Hm3.
