אל מתן היא התנחלות השייכת להתנחלות מעלה שומרון ומצויה בשטחה, כקילומטר מדרום לגבעת "לבונה", מעל לאפיקו של נחל קנה. שם היישוב אינו מופיע במקרא,[1] אך נמצא בחרסי שומרון, ודומה לשונית לשמו של הכפר הסמוך אימתין. אל מתן הוקם בשנת 2000 על ידי קבוצת צעירים דתיים מיישובי האזור - מעלה שומרון וקרני שומרון.

על פי אתר היישוב, מתגוררות בו כ-12 משפחות. על פי תוכנית של ארגון אמנה, יוקמו במקום 40 יחידות דיור, והוא יוכרז כ"כפר אמנים".

בשנת 2009 הוקם במקום בית כנסת. בעקבות עתירה לבג"ץ נגד הקמתו, בלא היתר בנייה כדין, הודיעה המדינה על אטימת המבנה ובג"ץ קיבל את עמדתה.[2] המבנה נאטם ובמקביל הוחל בהליכים להכשרת המבנה.[3] בסוף שנת 2012 קידם המנהל האזרחי הליכים להסדרת המקום ככפר אומנים.[4] בנובמבר 2012 אושרה חוקיות היישוב.[5]

בשנת 2014, אישר המנהל האזרחי גריעת 100 דונם משמורת נחל קנה לטובת אל מתן.
