Title
Portrait of Elizabeth, Lady Vaux.
Description
English: According to art historian K. T. Parker, who studied the Windsor collection, the drawing has been retouched with insensitive penwork, the wash in the headdress is clumsy, and the black chalk basis of the drawing is badly rubbed (Parker, pp. 42–43). Holbein's left-handed shading is, however, still discernible. Two paintings based on the drawing survive, neither by Holbein himself. Holbein also twice drew Lady Vaux's husband, Thomas, once with long hair and once with short.
