Notes
  • Significance: Elizabeth Barnwell (1753-1817) married Richard Gough in 1772, but they later separated. After her father Col. Nathaniel Barnwell died in 1775, Elizabeth had this house built. The house could have been modelled on the Miles Brewton House in Charleston, based on similarities in design and appearance. A closer kin is the Thomas Fuller House (Tabby Manse), which is also T-shaped in plan and constructed of tabby. (text from "Historic Beaufort" p. 151)
  • Survey number: HABS SC-542
