Summary edit

Description
English: Embankment of Shropshire Union Canal near Moss Hall. According to a nearby interpretative sign, "the 'Shroppie' is unlike earlier canals which followed the contours of the land and had fewer locks. Instead it keeps a shorter, more direct course, which involved building embankments, deep cuttings, bridges and groups of locks like these at Audlem...The large embankment over the River Weaver just north of Audlem was...completed successfully to Telford's complete satisfaction." (Thomas Telford died in 1834 before the canal was completed; the Shropshire Union was one of the last canals to be built before the coming of the railways.)
