Summary edit

Description
English: Emerging from the eastbound tunnel at Penmaen-bach. The headland at Penmaen-bach forms a formidable barrier to communication along the north Wales coast. In the days of horse and cart, carriages had to be dismantled to carry them round the headland! Nowadays, things are a little bit easier as the main A55 North Wales Expressway is carried through the headlands in tunnels. This shows the original (eastbound) tunnel constructed in 1932. Originally this carriageway carried traffic in both directions, but a new longer tunnel 208208 was constructed a short way to the south in the 1990s to take westbound traffic. Unlike the Pen-y-Clip tunnels a short way to the west, a good cycle and pedestrian path runs alongside the road round this headland.
