Português: Bernardino António de Barros Gomes, engenheiro silvicultor que introduziu em Portugal os métodos científicos do ordenamento florestal.

Para sustentar o fomento deste ordenamento, lançou-se em estudos sobre flora, relevo, clima e agricultura, com trabalhos de campo e levantamentos cartográficos até chegar à uma visão integradora do país que esteve na base da construção da geografia científica em Portugal. Autor das Cartas elementares de Portugal para uso das escolas, aprovadas para as escolas primarias pela Junta Consultiva de Instrução Publica, e duas delas duas vezes premiadas na exposição de Filadélfia de 1876.

Foi responsável pelo trabalhos em prol do ordenamento florestal nos pinhais de Vale de Zebro, da Machada e do Pinhal de Leiria.
English: Bernardino António de Barros Gomes, forestry engineer who introduced scientific methods of forestry planning to Portugal.

To support the promotion of this order, he embarked on studies on flora, relief, climate and agriculture, with fieldwork and cartographic surveys until arriving at an integrative vision of the country that was the basis for the construction of scientific geography in Portugal. Author of the Elementary mappings of Portugal for school use, approved for primary schools by the Consultative Board of Public Instruction, and two of which were awarded twice at the Philadelphia exhibition of 1876.

He was responsible for work in favor of forest management in the pine forests of Vale de Zebro, Machada and Pinhal de Leiria.
