Description
English: English Bay in Vancouver, BC, c. 1910. Taken by my great grandfather Sidney Duff.

Here's the scene blended with today.

I've dated his photo around 1910, because I know he was working in Victoria on the Empress Hotel at about that time. Of course Vancouver was just a boatride away so it could have been unrelated. His image was on a worn medium format negative.

He was an electrical engineer. After working on the Empress he went to work for the Milwaukee Railroad, electrifying their Rocky and Cascades mountain climbs and then staying at Cedar Falls, WA to run the power station. After his second child was born he moved back to Seattle and worked for City Light.

From a set of mostly public domain images collected by Rob Ketcherside. He applied a CC license on Flickr because Flickr does not offer a PD option. Description here is largely his.
