English: Enrico Scuri, Costantino Beltrami alle fonti del Mississippi "Il dipinto, compiuto nel 1861, rimane tra le prove più alte dell'artista. Appena ultimato, fu all'Esposizione nazionale di Firenze, insieme ad altri dipinti dell'autore. Una annotazione della figlia Selene, ricorda che nel 1860 il distinto letterato Gabriele Rosa suggerì allo Scuri l'idea di un ritratto storico dell'illustre concittadino e che il dipinto fu in seguito donato dall'autore al Comune di Bergamo. Qui, però, restò esposto per breve tempo, venendo dapprima trasferito in Biblioteca Civica Angelo Mai ad accompagnare il lascito dei cimeli beltrameschi, poi nella raccolta moderna dell'Accademia Carrara, quindi al Museo di Scienze Naturali "Caffi" di Bergamo dove ancora si trova."
