Description

The entrance to High Level Bridge, Newcastle upon Tyne, around 1885. Sculptors Robert Beall (1835–1892) and his son Robert Eusebius Beall (1860–1909) ran a monumental masonry and sculpture business in the southern arch, and possibly the northern arch, of this railway bridge. Access to the works was High Level Bridge Approach, which was to the right of the bridge (not pictured). On the right of the picture, you can just see the monumental masonry (gravestones) in Beall's yard.

The building on the left is the Bridge Inn. On the bridge is a a model of the No. 1 engine.
