Darling Mamma,
I told Sitoo to tell you of the offer that came to me while she was here, from my Montessori Mrs Urie, of a chance to help in the Montessori School at Hull House next year. It has left me distraught, for I am so torn – Of course I wrote her that I couldn’t decide anything till I had had a chance to talk with you and Papa in June, and also gone over the ground as

It is so wonderful to have Dr Little again, too! Miss de L’s mother is better, but ( doubt if Miss de L gets back before June. I’m anxiously awaiting dates of Tuk’s commencement & your plans. Three weeks only!!

I’d practically promised Papa that I was going to be at home next year, and just now especially, the thought of not being at home is unbearable. And yet – such an opportunity as it is ---! To be at Hull House with Mrs Urie, and have a free opportunity to work out the educational ideals which I’ve had to forego so much this year, under guidance  !—At any other time, it would seem the most appealing thing in the world, as far as work goes!

(p.3) But to leave you again so soon – in war time, not knowing what’s ahead!
Well, it doesn’t have to be decided yet, anyway, and we can talk it over calmly in June. I can’t bear to break it to Papa, when I’d talked so confidently and longingly of being at home, while he and Tuk were here But you do so, just whenever you think best. I wanted to tell you first.
Mrs Urie wants me to stop off at Chicago on my way home to see the school, but I think that (p.4) is out of the question, as I shall escort Edith home from Louisville, possibly after a short riding-trip with Bill.
Just think, Ede is actually here again, for a two-weeks visit, seeming so much better – so much calmer and with so much greater endurance! She is blissfully happy to be back, and is leading a very quiet life at the Pole House. Our six new Jersey cows give plenty of mile for all, two or three cups a day to drink, besides on oatmeal, and eggs and butter are plentiful, so that the diet question is pretty well solved for her.
