With regard to cultural sensitivities, advice was sought from SLSA about this. Below is the permission, given in a Word document to me via email:

"As Mr Kite lacked direct descendants, the State Library contacted Dr Jason Gibson, an anthropologist and historian who has researched and written widely on Central Australian culture, contact history and Erlikilyika (Jim Kite) to seek advice on possible Community consultation.

Dr Gibson’s advice was as follows:

'I can find no descendants of Jim. I think people would be really pleased to see an image of this great man out there. The Melbourne Museum recently sent his carved boomerang depicting John McDouall Stuart to the EU for an exhibition over there in Brussels.

Arrernte people are really proud of Jim’s achievements. I see no issue with circulating the image.' (email to Suzy Russell 25/07/19)

In response to this advice, the State Library is please to grant permission for you to include this image on Erlikilyika’s Wikipedia entry.
