Florence Jane (née Théleur), Lady Alexander (1857 or 1858-1946) (1857 or 1858-1946), Wife of actor Sir George Alexander; daughter of Edward Théleur

The costume donned by Lady Alexander alludes to the 17th century traditional dress worn by aristocratic guests to the Masquerade Ball held at the Winter Palace in February 1903 as part of the city's 200th anniversary celebrations.

«Костюмированный бал 1903 года в Зимнем дворце», в котором воспроизведены все исторические фотографии. При изучении этого альбома нам не удалось обнаружить среди участников бала Флоранс Телье Александр. Однако полностью отказаться от предполагаемой связи портрета в русском костюме и исторического бала, наверное, было бы не верным. В статье А.В. Конивец «Последний бал в Зимнем дворце» (журнал «История Петербурга» № 5 2008 г. с 3-12) есть описание платья очень напоминающее платье, изображенное на портрете Флоранс Телье работы Липгарта. «Платье это было потрясающе красивое, из розового атласа все расшитое золотом, с длинной накидкой из золотой парчи с свисающими рукавами из розового бархата, увенчанное огромным золотым кокошником в виде солнца, сплошь усеянным жемчугом» (цит. по А.В. Конивец, указанное сочинение, с.4) - это фрагмент мемуаров мисс Мириэль Бьюкенен – дочери английского посла в Петербурге. Мисс Бьюкенен прибыла в Петербург в 1910 году и о бале знала лишь по рассказам очевидцев. Великолепное платье она одолжила у участницы бала княгини О.К. Орловой для выступления в «живых картинах». Подтверждений тому, что то же платье надето и на леди Александр нет, но предположение вполне имеет право на существование. Надо заметить, что на бальной фотографии О.К. Орлова, очевидно, запечатлена в другом русском платье. Может быть, к балу был подготовлен ни один костюм?
