Description
English: The monument to Ernst Abbe can be found in Jena on the south-western corner of the road junction Fürstengraben and Weigelstraße. The front of the pedestal shows a portrait as well as the name and the life data (1840 - 1905) of the scholar and the text Friedrich-Schiller-University of Jena . The stone ball, supported by the base, shows the formula for the resolving power of optical instruments going back to Ernst Abbe.
