Description
English: This image is a combination of visible and infrared light. It was captured by the Advanced Land Imager (ALI) on NASA’s Earth Observing-1 (EO-1) satellite captured on December 1, 2012. It shows the eruption of Tolbachik volcano, one of many active volcanoes on Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula. Tolbachik began erupting in late November 2012, the first time the volcano has been active in 36 years. The image shows volcanic plumes and a lava flow. Parts of the lava flow glow bright red, an indication of high surface temperatures
