Description
English: Estonian Scout Battalion, 1st Infantry Company Commander, Capt. Tonis Metjer briefs the Field Training Exercise battalion commander, Latvian Lt. Col Gunars Kaulins, on his plan to conduct operations on the first day of the FTX, here at Exercise Saber Strike 2012. Estonia is hosting the exercise this year, and the command post exercise is happening concurrently in Tapa, Estonia. One infantry company from Estonia deployed to Latvia to participate in the field training portion of the exercise. Around the table, from left to right: Latvian Capt. Igors Bulahs, the opposition force director, Capt. Tracy Sessions- the exercise chief of operations, from the 2nd Cav. Regt., Stryker Troop Commander, Capt. Tom Hearon, III, Kaulins, Metjer, Canadian Capt. Andrew Straatsma, the operations battle captain, and U.S. Air Force air liaison officer, Lt. Col. Robert Obom from the Washington Air National Guard. Saber Strike 2012 is a multinational, tactical field training and command post exercise that involves more than 2,000 personnel from the U.S. Army’s 2nd Cavalry Regiment, Pennsylvania National Guard, 21st Theater Sustainment Command, the 4th U.S. Marine Division, the 127th Wing of the Michigan Air National Guard, Estonian, Latvian, and Lithuanian armed forces, with contingents from Canada, Finland, France and the U.K. The exercise, led by U.S. Army Europe, is designed to enhance joint and combined interoperability between the U.S. military and partner nations, and will help prepare participants to operate successfully in a joint, multinational, interagency, integrated environment.
