Español: Cierre del último canal de conexión entre el Mediterráneo y el Atlántico, conduciendo a la desecación completa del primero durante la Crisis Salina del Mesiniense. B y C) Los ríos que anteriormente drenaban al Mediterráneo excavaron en los márgenes continentales profundas gargantas erosivas; D) la evaporación del Mediterráneo condujo a la saturación de la sal en sus aguas y a la precipitación de capas de sal de más de un kilómetro de espesor; E) en las partes más profundas del mar quedaron lagos donde se evaporaba el agua recogida de la cuenca mediterránea.
English: Closing the last channel connecting the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, leading to the first drying during the Messinian salinity crisis. B and C) Rivers which previously drained to the Mediterranean excavated erosion gorges in the continental margins. D) evaporation of the Mediterranean led to saturation of the salt in its waters and precipitation of salt layers over a kilometer thick. E) In the deeper parts of the sea were lakes where water collected from the Mediterranean basin evaporated. The box recreates the mammalian transit across the Strait.
