DescriptionEton Fives court, High Elms, Farnborough, Kent - geograph.org.uk - 54774.jpg |
English: Eton Fives court, High Elms, Farnborough, Kent. Eton Fives became popular in Victorian times and one of the earliest courts was built by the Lubbock family at their 400-acre country estate of High Elms. In latter days, a member of the family, Eric Lubbock, created a sensation by winning the 1962 Orpington byelection for the Liberal party. Later elevated to the peerage as Lord Avebury, he left an instruction that after his death, his body be cut up and fed to his dogs. Needless to say, this was not carried out. |
