From the coast the bright rails gostreaking into a region, at one time quite as be-nighted as where David Livingstone laid down hislife in his unwearied effort to evangelize thenative races, to explore the undiscovered secrets,to abolish the desolating slave-trade of CentralAfrica. In the whole of the world there is scarcely tobe found a more promising field for mission workthan in Uganda. The climate of the country,thanks to its elevation, is healthy, although warmenough to produce coffee, sugar, maize, rice,bananas, etc. The Baganda are under the BritishFlag, and very many of them are already enlistedin the service of the Great Captain of all. Conquering the Alps European railways, as a whole, very muchresemble our own ; and when once we have crossedthe Channel to Flushing, Ostend, Calais, orBoulos^ne, we can find excellent services to thecapitals of Europe, as far apart as Ams
