With regard to the com-mercial value of the bottleful, we are not disposed inthis hot weather to weary either ourselves or ourreaders by working out a sum in fractions, and we willtherefore limit ourselves to the statement that thewhole of the drugs in an eight-ounce bottle of thisstuff would be dear at a penny. But, though it is a highly objectional proceeding onthe part of patent medicine manufacturers, through 141 greed of gain, to so unscrupulously puff their wares—more energetically and persistently even than thatarch-impostor, Autolycus, in Shakespeares WintersTale—^yet it is many, many times more culpable toimpair peoples constitutions, and in very numerousinstances to jeopardise their lives, by causing the lossof valuable time, during which medical skill wouldhave availed to save the sufferers. «. ^-•* s* THE 11TI-1B1LTE1ITI01 ASSOCIATION, (REGISTERED 1895) 6i & 62, CHANCERY LANE, LONDON, W.C, The frequency and impunity with which the Food and Drugs Adulteration Acts,1875-72, and other Acts of Parliament having a similar scope, are set at defiance,have led to the formation of this much-needed public Association, the necessity ofwhich has long been recognised, both by the consumers and by the best manu-facturers and retailers. The following are amongst the desirable objects which the Association hasin view:— 1.—To put more regularly into force the provisions of the existing Acts, and toprevent their becoming practically inoperative, through the energetic greed ofdishonest traders, the apathy or helplessness of consumers, or the inadequatepunishment dealt out to offenders in the majority of cases where offences againstthe Acts have been proved. 2.—To obtain by Statute such modifications of the Acts—at present of toopermissive a character, and affording too many
