Transcripción de la ficha: "El término «alférez» refiere al grado militar inmediatamente anterior al de teniente. Diego de la Parra, quien fuera alférez y administrador mayor del Convento de Santa Clara de Querétaro, ha sufrido un desmayo que lo puso al borde de una muerte súbita, algo muy temido en el mundo colonial, ya que sus víctimas no alcanzaban el beneficio de los sacramentos, como la confesión y la extremaunción, dice Jaime Cuadriello. Para agradecer la mediación divina, de la Parra solicitó este exvoto que da cuenta de una gran riqueza descriptiva.

El personaje luce casaca oscura, cuello y mangas de encaje, sombrero de ala ancha -que ha quedado en el suelo por el accidente- y zapatos de hebilla. Todos los elementos del ajuar civil enfatizan su condición de militar al servicio de la Corona. La escena es presenciada por un grupo de monjas clarisas quienes, detrás de la reja del coro, han dispuesto la milagrosa imagen de Nuestra Señora del Destierro para interceder por la salud del retratado."
