Summary edit

Description
English: Eyed Ladybird (Anatis ocellata) This is Britain's largest species of ladybird. The markings on the wing-cases are most commonly as shown here, though there is often some variation; however, a black "M" mark on a white background on the pronotum (not in fact the head, but rather a plate which largely covers the head from above) is a useful identifying feature. This species is usually found on pine (there were many pine trees near this spot), but at this time of year it is travelling further afield in order to feed up for winter, when these ladybirds will overwinter in soil or in leaf litter. The one shown in the photo had just flown across the footpath to land here.
